Showing excessive or an uneven display of gum tissue can detract
from an otherwise beautiful smile. A nice smile is much more than
just white teeth. Some common problems occur when too much gum tissue
shows, resulting in a "gummy smile."
"Gummy smiles" are caused by an overgrowth
of the gum tissue, that then covers the teeth. This may be caused
by heredity, health conditions and even some medications. A gummy
smile will dominate the mouth, making the teeth seem almost secondary
in appearance.
Asymmetrical smiles can often be caused by uneven gums as well as
crooked teeth. Making corrections in both the teeth and gums is
critical in achieving dramatic results as seen in the photographs.
Dr. Weigand was the first dentist in Spokane to utilize
the newly developed Diode Laser from Biolase to help his patients.
The laser actually vaporizes unnecessary and unsightly tissue, leaving
healthy, shapely, normal looking gums.
The process takes only a few minutes for most, and
there is usually very little discomfort and the healing is rapid.
Most people return to work and normal activities the same day.
